Hardware of Samsung Galaxy Tab

With a lot of touch screen devices rolling out in the market its really getting tougher for manufacturers to make something different. But Samsung has done a good job with its complementary front and back ends. The back is rounded off and coated with black/white shinny plastic while front gets the black screen.

1. Size and weight: the Samsung has put a lot of effort to distinguish it as the thinnest and slimmest of the tabs in the market. Thin and sleek design lets you hold it just like any phone.

Screen

It doesn’t comes up with AMOLED screens like other Samsung smart phones. But the 1280 X 800 WXGA full HD 1080p does exceptionally well. The pixel density of 149ppi gives you sharper and more clear viewing experience. The display is quite bright and colour appears really brittle. Its large viewing angle is far better than the other tabs in the market; it means you didn’t have to make adjustment if you and your friend is watching any video.

The capacitive touch screen is exceptionally responsive and easily matches that

of the iPad’s. The accelerometer is also responsive and tends to turn the screen as we turn the tablet, it might be slower with the browser but in all it works good.

The speaker at the bottom of the tablet are also quite louder than the speakers in other smartphones and tabs, if that’s not enough for you it provides an option to connect it with external speakers.

Software

You could have had all the hardware in the world but without proper software it would be worth nothing, thank god that doesn’t suits for Samsung galaxy tab. The new Android 3.1 Honeycomb version is specially designed to suit the needs of the tablets. It is the most up to date version of the android and comes with lot of pre-loaded features. Honeycomb allows multi-tasking and effortless browsing experience. The Samsung has also announced the special Samsung apps that would available in the android market for this tab.

The tablet also comes up with all the Google apps like Gtalk video chat, Google calendar, YouTube, Google maps navigation, Google latitudes etc.

Samsung apps

Samsung has developed several apps specially for this tablet.

1. Calendar: this is quite attractive you can either set it to full screen view or could set it to be in two parts with a list of upcoming events.

2. Media hub: it is the Samsung’s movie and TV store. Currently Samsung has posted over 1000s of videos and is expected to enhance it in future. Although contents are mostly paid ones and some good titles are missing but still it manages to do a good job.
Performance and battery life

The tab really quite inspires when it comes to performance. The tab is much faster than other androids in the market. Even if with four or five apps working together, its 1GHz processor delivers good smooth and faster working experience.

Battery life is pretty good. The 7000mAh battery provides you with enough power to enjoy your videos for 9 hours and on music it delivers a whopping 72 hour playback time.

That’s pretty much good but when compared to the iPad it still has some patches to be filled.

All in the box

When you look into the android market, you will find that it is one of best suited android tablet available. The sleek and compact design does gives it a edge over the other competitors. The performance and speed is also another advantage for the Tab. And with its features and quick and responsive processor it can give quite a good competition to the Apple’s iPad. But still it has a long way to go.
